Magic Bullet Looks FAQ

Magic Bullet Looks -- Frequently Asked Questions

General

Q: What is Magic Bullet Looks?
A: Magic Bullet Looks is the revolutionary new color correction tool to set the mood of a movie. Don't be fooled. Magic Bullet Looks is not just a film look tool. With Magic Bullet Looks, you can also correct the depth of field, set the mood and add many additional new effects.

Magic Bullet Looks is the next generation of look tools for Magic Bullet Editors and Magic Bullet Suite customers and includes:

  • Magic Bullet Looks plugin for After Effects, Final Cut Pro, Avid, Premiere Pro and Sony Vegas
  • Magic Bullet LooksBuilder, a stand-alone application to pre-visualize looks on set or anywhere, using a JPEG or TIFF image. Look presets are portable and load into any of the editing hosts, so the same Looks created on set are the ones used to finish within the editorial suite. It's no longer necessary to have an expensive finishing system. You have hundreds of options with one click.
  • Magic Bullet Misfire, a separate filter which adds film damage such as dust and scratches to artificially age a film.

Q: I own Magic Bullet Editors. How is Magic Bullet Looks different?
A: Magic Bullet Editors is now called Magic Bullet Looks. There are important differences between the products. Magic Bullet Looks includes a brand new library of over 100 presets to help set the mood of your project. The user interface has been completely re-designed to enable you to be very experimental with different looks. Most importantly it is easier and more fun to use. Support is also available for multiple host applications including, After Effects 6.5 - CS3, Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 - 6.0, Avid Xpress Pro 5.5 or later and Media Composer 2.5 or later, Motion 3, and Premiere Pro 2.0 - CS3. Support for Vegas will be available in 2008, no date has been set at this time.

Q: Can I cross grade from Magic Bullet Editors or Magic Bullet Suite to Magic Bullet Looks?
A: Yes, if you are a current Magic Bullet Editors or Magic Bullet Suite customer, you may cross grade to Magic Bullet Looks for just $99 USD. For additional information, please refer to the Pricing and Availability section.

Q: What is the difference between Magic Bullet Looks and Magic Bullet Frames?
A: Magic Bullet Frames allows you to take interlaced video and get the 24p look of film, right from within your editor- at high speed and high quality. Magic Bullet Frames will support After Effects 6.5 - CS3, Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 - 6.0, Avid Xpress Pro 5.5 or later and Media Composer 2.5 or later, Motion 3, and Premiere Pro 2.0 - CS3.

You would use Magic Bullet Looks to set the mood of your project after de-interlacing the footage with Magic Bullet Frames.

Q: What is the difference between Magic Bullet Looks and Magic Bullet Colorista?
A: After you have de-interlaced your footage with Magic Bullet Frames, we recommend using Magic Bullet Colorista to color correct your footage. Magic Bullet Colorista produces better-looking results than the three-way correctors built into most NLEs, and with simpler controls. So spend a little time cleaning up the lift, gamma, and gain with Magic Bullet Colorista before setting the mood and correcting the depth of field with Magic Bullet Looks.

Q: What is the difference between Magic Bullet Looks and Magic Bullet Suite 2007?
A: Magic Bullet Suite 2007 is a collection or bundle of products including, Magic Bullet Looks, Magic Bullet Colorista, Magic Bullet Frames (available by November 30), and Instant HD. Magic Bullet Suite 2007 also supports multiple host applications including, After Effects 6.5 - CS3, Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 - 6.0, Avid Xpress Pro 5.5 or later and Media Composer 2.5 or later, Motion 3, and Premiere Pro 2.0 - CS3.
