Deartifacting Prekey™
Ever wonder why your DV chromakey
results are lacking?
The DV format has two problems which make keying difficult
- DV 5:1 compression adds extra noise to the image
- Low resolution in the color channel causes block artifacts
Primatte Keyer's new features solve
both of
these problems. The PreKey deartifacting feature addresses the low color resolution
and the Alpha Cleaner filters address the compression issues.

The left image below shows an actress in front of a greenscreen. The footage
was shot on MiniDV using a mid-range consumer level camera. On the right
is the same footage with a simple color key applied. If you look along the
edges of the actress’ face you can see blocking and artifacting caused
by the compression in the DV source.

The left side image shows the original footage with the basic key. The right
image is the exact same key pre-processed by PreKey deartifacter. The edge
of the hair is significantly smoother and more realistic, which makes for
both a
superior key and final composite.
